EXAM STRESS: 20-YEAR-OLD STUDENT COMMITS SUICIDE

Bathinda March 25:
BA-1 student Avinash Kaur (20) committed suicide at her house in Partap Nagar locality here. She was in depression since Saturday, as her English examination had not gone well. “She was a brilliant student,” said her mother. “She couldn’t come to term with what she imagined was bad performance. When he came home after the paper on Saturday, she was sad.”
At 3pm on Sunday, Avinash Kaur told her mother that she would take her meal at 4pm because she wanted to study. Instead, she went to her room on the first floor and hanged herself from a ceiling fan there. In her suicide note, she sought apology from her parents for her extreme step, and requested that her funeral be like wedding procession. “‘I must wear salwar suit and jacket,’ she wrote in the suicide note,” said deputy superintendent of police (city) Gurmit Singh Kingra.
