To clip the dreams of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government
for using the Food Security ordnance as “poll plank”, the state
government has geared up to make the existing “Atta-Dal” scheme more
attractive by lowering the price of food grain, being distributed to the
poors.
“Apart from widening the number of beneficiaries from 15 lakh to 30 lakh, rate of the food grain would also be lowered to extend maximum benefits to the downtrodden sections of the society under Atta-Dal Scheme”, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said while addressing the gathering of panches and sarpanches at oath-taking ceremony held here.
On a query, whether the state government would implement the scheme launched by the UPA government under Food Security ordinance, Badal evaded a direct reply and said “as we are already running a better scheme, where is the need to implement a scheme, which is just copy of our scheme”.
“UPA's scheme of Food Security, is merely a poll stunt and it is doubtful, whether the ordinance will be ratified in the Parliament for its real execution”, Badal added.
On poor plight of sikh farmers in Gujarat, the chief minister said that the state government was solidly with the farmers of Gujarat, who were facing threat of displacement in Kutch region, adding that efforts were being made to get their problems solved from the Gujarat government.
Earlier, addressing the mammoth gathering at the function, the CM said that the hard working and resilient farmers of the state were on the crossroads due to the wrong policies of the Union government.
