Chandigarh March 23:
To
upgrade education system in the state, the Punjab government has
earmarked Rs 8,541 crore for the sector in the state budget. This was
informed by Information and Public Relations minister Bikram Singh
Majithia.
“Education
is the base of a developed society and nation…it is the priority of the
Punjab government to ensure a quality education system,” he said. The
government will start a scholarship scheme under which brilliant
students belonging to poor family will get a scholarship of Rs 30,000
per year, the minister said. Majithia said the government will provide
free tablets to 1.5 lakh students of class XI. For this, Rs 30 crore has
been earmarked in the budget.
